You are about to open the premier issue of In Our Hands: extra, an online version
of our employee publication In Our Hands.
When we began discussing the concept for a new intranet newsletter, we envisioned it as a
way to quickly communicate news about company initiatives, best practices from our various
businesses, acquisitions and other timely information. And it will be.
But for now, the tragic terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon last week
and their ongoing aftermath have left us searching for information and answers to the
countless questions that arise in moments of tragedy. At times like these, communication
becomes a vital human need. The more we know, the better wešre able to understand and
manage the situation.
It is important that we create a shared knowledge of how our company survived the horrific
events of last week, and how ITT Industries people around the world have contributed
support, prayers, time, money and materials to help rescuers and relief organizations in
their heroic efforts to save lives and restore some sense of normalcy to the world.
You can help, too, by sharing the information in this newsletter with any employees in
your company who may not have access to the intranet. In the wake of this tragedy,
everyone in the ITT Industries family will be heartened by the strength and compassion of
their co-workers around the world.
We plan to continue publishing In Our Hands: extra on a regular basis. We hope you
find the publication to be timely, interesting and useful.
