Can you provide a thumbnail description of your company's products and markets?
We're a world-class supplier of membrane, filtration and disinfection technology used to clean municipal water, and industrial process streams and wastewaters. Over the past 30 years, we've grown from an R&D start-up venture, producing some of the first commercially useful reverse osmosis membranes, to a business with $25 million in annual sales and 170 employees in Europe and North America.

Portacel is our disinfection business, supplying water and wastewater utilities worldwide with chemical dosing and monitoring equipment. Stella Meta is a leading supplier of mobile military water treatment to the U.K. armed forces.

Are you considered a leader in your markets?

We're the market leader in the U.K. for municipal membrane treatment systems for surface waters. Our products are a vital part of the process to eliminate trihalomethanes (THM) from drinking water supplies. We also have more than 1,000 industrial installations across the U.K, Europe and Asia, and help companies like Bayer AG, CIBA Specialty Chemicals, Unilever, as well as fruit juice processors and dyestuff manufacturers in the U.S., to treat their water and wastewater flows.

What sets you apart from the competition?
We have a high level of skill and expertise in membrane filtration and disinfection design, developed through 30 years of field experience with real applications and real problems to solve. At PCI, we also aim for partnership with key customers. For instance, we've worked with the public water authorities in Scotland for more than 10 years and now have over 30 water treatment plants installed there.

Why were you a good fit for ITT Industries?
Tom Pokorsky, president of ITT's Sanitaire business, said it best: "ITT Industries is the world's premier provider of pumping and treatment solutions to move and control water, wastewater and other fluids. PCI's products will greatly enhance our capabilities in treatment applications and further develop our global platform in filtration and disinfection. Together, we will work vigorously to preserve and protect the earth's precious water resources."

How will being part of ITT benefit you?
PCI will benefit substantially from the wide range of existing municipal and industrial market contacts and relationships which ITT brings. ITT's strengths in manufacturing systems integration and value improvement programs will help us become a more efficient manufacturer in the future. Our customers also value the strength and stability of ITT Industries and its long-term commitment to building its water and wastewater technology base.

Will the acquisition change the way you operate?
We are currently exploring links with ITT bases in China, where we see strong growth in the demand for membrane filtration systems. What won't change is PCI's focus on the market and customers' demands as the driver for our business.

What's the best part of being acquired by ITT?
So far, it seems like being a new member of a large and diverse family. A lot of people in ITT already seem to be very interested in what we do.
