ITT Industries is helping to ease some of the hardships for soldiers who were called into action in the Iraqi conflict.

Our Defense & Electronics business made a $2,000 donation to the U.S. Marine Corps Personal and Family Readiness Division. The money is being used to purchase clothes for the wounded Marines who are returned to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. In addition, a number of ITT Defense value centers donated clothing items, Walkman radios, playing cards, pens and writing pads to the organization.

"Many of these young men arrive at the hospital with nothing more than hospital scrubs after having their uniforms cut off and discarded enroute from Iraq," explains Defense's Sheila Ball. "Their bags with personal gear can take weeks or months to make their way to the hospital or their homes, so these items are very much needed and appreciated."

Communications with family members is another rare comfort for active military personnel. To that end, the Armed Forces Emergency Services (AFES) for the American Red Cross works to relay emergency messages between service members and their families. Messages frequently involve serious illnesses and deaths, or news about the birth of a child. AFES also arranges emergency travel, provides confidential counseling and organizes support groups for family members.

In late March, ITT Industries CEO Lou Giuliano was named honorary chairman of AFES for the American Red Cross in Westchester County, New York.

"I'm pleased to help the Red Cross with this vital program. ITT Industries has for many years been a major supplier to all branches of the military with both products and services. In addition, many ITT Industries employees are currently serving on active duty through the Reserve or National Guard. Other employees have loved ones on active duty and they too will benefit from this critically important Red Cross program."
