Flygt
Fish-Saving System Earns Award Flygt pumps are the centerpiece of a "fish attractor" that is attracting national awards. Recently, the National Hydropower Association presented a Hydro Achievement Award to the Public Utilities Department in Chelan County, Washington, for their juvenile fish bypass system at the Rocky Reach Dam. Swimming downstream, salmon "go with the flow," which means they are often pulled into the fast-moving hydroelectric turbines at power plant dams. The Rocky Reach system uses Flygt pumps and valves to create a strong current that steers young salmon into a four-foot diameter tube and safely around the dam's hydroelectric turbines. Flygt worked with Chelan County on the design of the fish bypass system, and shared at least in spirit the award for "superior technological solutions."
