ITT Avionics and Northrop Grumman Joint Venture Team Win $100M Contract From the Republic of Korea Air Force

CLIFTON, N.J., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The joint venture team of ITT
Avionics (Clifton, NJ, USA) and Northrop Grumman's Electronic Sensors and
Systems Division (ESSD) (Baltimore, MD, USA) has been awarded a contract,
valued at more than $100M, by the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) for the
AN/ALQ-165 Airborne Self-Protection Jammer (ASPJ) for its F-16 fighter
The ASPJ system was selected following an extensive ROKAF technical and
cost analysis. The ASPJ hardware is being procured as a direct commercial
sale by the ROKAF from the ITT Avionics/Northrop Grumman Joint Venture team.
Software and integration associated with the system are being provided through
the U.S. Department of Defense's Foreign Military Sales program.
Mr. Hank Driesse, ITT Avionics president and general manager, and Mr. Sal
Cuomo, managing director of Electronic Warfare Systems for Northrop Grumman's
ESSD said, "Selection of the ASPJ by the ROKAF further expands the system's
international customer base and its aircraft applications. Adding the F-16 to
the list of platforms served by ASPJ opens significant new business
opportunities for the system in the worldwide fighter aircraft market, and
recognizes the applicability of a common electronic countermeasures system for
    multiple aircraft."
The ASPJ system provides self-protection for tactical aircraft against
radar threat systems during fighter and attack operations. The system is
designed for internal installation in numerous aircraft, including the F/A-
    18C/D, F-16C, F-14D, A-6E and A/V-8B.
Designed and manufactured by the ITT Avionics/Northrop Grumman team, the
ASPJ system is presently in production for the F-18 Hornet forces of Finland
and Switzerland. Initial system deliveries were made to the Finnish Air Force
in November 1995, followed by deliveries to the Swiss Armed Forces in
September 1996. The ALQ-165 ASPJ is also deployed on front-line U.S. Navy and
Marine Corps F/A-18C/D and F-14D fighters supporting operations in Bosnia -
    Herzegovina and the Middle East.
