ITT Industries' Avionics Unit Receives $25M Contract to Develop Self-Protection System for CV-22 Aircraft

    9/15/1997

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- ITT Avionics, a unit of ITT
Industries' (NYSE: IIN) Defense & Electronics group, has been awarded a
$25.2 million contract from Bell Helicopter Textron to design and manufacture
the AN/ALQ-211 Suite of Integrated RF Countermeasures (SIRFC) system for the
U.S. Air Force Special Operations CV-22 Osprey aircraft. Under the 36-month
contract, ITT Avionics will produce ALQ-211 SIRFC Engineering & Manufacturing
Development (EMD) units for delivery to Bell Helicopter Textron, who is teamed
with Boeing Defense & Space Group Helicopters Division to manufacture the
    V-22 aircraft.
The ALQ-211 SIRFC is a fully integrated airborne electronic combat system.
The system will provide CV-22 aircrews with real-time battlefield situational
awareness, advanced radar warning and electronic countermeasures (ECM)
capabilities. The ALQ-211 will fulfill the vital role as the CV-22 sensor
fusion processor to fuse and integrate multi-spectral on and off-board sensor
derived data, providing the pilot with a real-time, comprehensive picture of
    the electronic battlefield.
ITT Avionics is presently under contract with the U.S. Army for the
Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase of the ALQ-211 SIRFC program.
According to ITT Avionics President and General Manager Hank Driesse,
"Expansion of the ALQ-211 SIRFC program to the Air Force Special Operations
CV-22 is enabled by the system's modularity and adaptability to meet multi-
    platform, multi-service operational requirements."
The ALQ-211 SIRFC system is slated for deployment on the U.S. Army's AH-
64D Longbow, the Air Force's Special Operations CV-22 and a variety of other
platforms which includes the CH-47 and UH-60 transport helicopters and
Special Operations MH-47 and MH-60. Initial delivery of ALQ-211 SIRFC EMD
units to the U.S. Army is scheduled for late 1997 followed by system
deliveries for the CV-22 beginning in mid-1998.
