ITT Night Vision Wins Major Contract in Switzerland

ROANOKE, Va., Jan. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- ITT Night Vision, in Roanoke, VA
(USA), a unit of ITT Industries Inc. (NYSE: IIN), recently received a major
contract from Leica AG in Heerbrugg, Switzerland, to supply Generation (Gen)
III image intensifier tubes to the Swiss Armed Forces.
Terms of this contract, valued at $26 Million (U.S.), require ITT Night
Vision to supply image intensifier tubes to Leica, which will integrate the
tubes into night vision systems it delivers to the Swiss Army.
This five-year contract is the largest international contract received to
date by ITT Night Vision, an operating unit of ITT Defense & Electronics.
Since 1985, ITT Night Vision has consistently received the maximum allowable
percentage of all night vision contracts awarded by the U.S. Army. In
February 1996, the Company was awarded 100% of the single-source OMNIBUS IV
contract, the U.S. Government's most recent multiyear procurement of night
    vision devices.
"ITT Night Vision's reputation as the leading supplier of night vision
devices to the U.S. military provides unquestioned credibility in
international markets," stated Neil A. Gallagher, ITT Night Vision President &
General Manager. "Receipt of this contract further illustrates our commitment
to extending Gen III night fighting capabilities to our international allies."
Recognized world-wide as a leader in the industry, ITT Night Vision's key
strength lies in image intensifier development and manufacturing. The image
intensifier tube is the key component of night vision systems. Via a three-
stage process, the tube gathers available light -- present in the night sky
but not visible to the unaided eye -- and intensifies it to a level of
brightness that the human eye can see under otherwise dark conditions.
