ITT Industries Awarded $29 Million for Combat Net Radios; Army Buys 7 Thousand Half Sized Advanced SINCGARS Radios

    6/9/1999

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- ITT Industries Inc.
(NYSE: IIN), Aerospace Communications Division (A/CD), has been awarded $29.3M
to produce several thousand new Advanced Single Channel Ground and Airborne
Radio System (SINCGARS) receiver/transmitters primarily for the U.S. Army
National Guard. All of the units will be produced in ITT Industries' Fort
Wayne, Indiana facility, which is the sole supplier of the Advanced SINCGARS
    SIP radio (ASIP).
Under terms of contracts issued in 1997 and 1998, ITT Industries is
already producing more than 68,000 ASIP SINCGARS for the U.S. Military. This
new award is for more than seven thousand additional receiver/transmitters and
some 3,500 Vehicle Adapter Assemblies (VAA) and 3,600 power amplifiers with
associated support equipment. Some six thousand of these items are destined
for service in the Army National Guard's 15 Enhanced Brigades and Teaming
Divisions. These are the early deploying units of the Guard that require
communications interoperability with their active duty counterparts during war
or contingency operations. The remaining order consists of nearly 800 units
for the Navy and 200 units for the active Army. These newest SINCGARS radios
will replace voice only systems with a smaller, lighter and more capable voice
and data system for battlefield operations.
The new Advanced SINCGARS SIP is the result of a carefully planned
evolution of enhancements that combine data and voice with networking
capability into a package that is half the size and weight of previous
generation SIP radios. Other features include an internal battery,
substantially reduced power consumption for longer battery life, waveform
enhancement (known as the ESIP waveform) to improve voice and retransmission
performance and the flexibility to grow with new requirements through software
    reprogramability.
The export version of the ASIP is sold internationally under the name
Advanced Tactical Communications System or ATCS. The ATCS is already
in-service with Ireland, and several Middle-Eastern nations have placed
    orders.
