CLIFTON, N.J., May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Army reports that its
next-generation RF electronic combat suite -- the AN/ALQ-211 Suite of
Integrated RF Countermeasures (SIRFC), developed by ITTIndustries, Inc. (NYSE:
IIN) -- took its first flight on March 23, 1999. ITT Industries, Avionics
Division is the prime contractor for the AN/ALQ-211 SIRFC system. SIRFC is a
fully integrated aircraft self-protection suite that includes advanced radar
warning, situational awareness and electronic counter measures capabilities.
The system is designed for rotary wing and special operations aircraft with
adaptability to other platforms including fixed wing aircraft. SIRFC will
provide pilots with the ability to evade or defeat modern radar directed air
defense threats. The system is designed to counter multiple, simultaneous
pulse, pulse Doppler (PD), continuous wave (CW) and monopulse radar threats.
SIRFC's inaugural flight was conducted at The Boeing Company's facilities
in Mesa, AZ, on board the AH-64D Longbow Apache where the system underwent
initial aircraft system integration and "Safety of Flight" testing. Preceding
this flight, SIRFC completed Electromagnetic Capability (EMC) ground tests on
the Longbow. Another significant program milestone was achieved in April of
this year, as SIRFC successfully completed EMC flight testing with other
AH-64D Longbow systems, including the Fire Control Radar and RF Hellfire
missiles. The EMC flight testing was conducted at the U.S. Army's Electronic
Proving Grounds, Fort Huachuca, AZ.
SIRFC will now undergo an extensive series of contractor tests on board
the AH-64D Longbow at Edwards AFB, CA, and Electronic Countermeasures (ECM)
testing at China Lake, CA.
Nearing the completion of its Engineering & Manufacturing Development
phase, the SIRFC program will continue through contractor flight testing in
1999 followed by U.S. Army Developmental and Operational Test (DT/OT) in early
The U.S. Army's current Operational Requirements Document (ORD) calls for
the installation of the ALQ-211 SIRFC system on the AH-64D Longbow Apache,
Special Operations MH-47E and MH-60K helicopters and designated UH-60 and
