(NYSE: IIN) announced today that its Gilfillan division has been awarded
contracts to provide radar equipment worth approximately $45 million for the
Republic of Turkey. The awards include both MPN-14K radar approach control
(RAPCONs) and MPN-25 ground control approach (GCA) radars for the Turkish Air
The MPN-14K system provides air traffic control and precision approach
services in support of landing aircraft. This solid state RAPCON provides a
significant improvement in performance for all weather landing operations.
The modular system includes trailer-mounted mobile and fixed-base
configurations, depending on individual customer requirements. The new MPN-
14Ks on this contract are in addition to seven systems previously delivered to
The MPN-25s under contract represent the first international sale of this
solid-state tactical landing system. The AN/MPN-25 is also in production for
the US Air Force. The MPN-25, a member of GCA-2000 family of radar systems,
is a highly mobile configuration used for quick deployment in times of crisis.
The highly mobile AN/MPN-25 deploys with early aircraft to provide initial ATC
operations in adverse weather. In less than two hours from arrival the
AN/MPN-25 can be operational, providing guidance and area control to follow-on
aircraft. Operational flexibility is further aided by the MPN-25s unique
capability to change runways due to wind shifts in less than one minute.
