New fiber-optic technologies and miniaturized connectors offer lightweight, cost-effective and durable solutions for commercial aviation markets

SANTA ANA, Calif., October 15, 2013 – ITT Corporation (NYSE:ITT) has developed unique interconnect technologies designed to reduce total cost of ownership and increase bandwidth capacity for the most rigorous aviation applications. These Cannon-branded solutions will be showcased at the NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition Oct. 22-24.

“ITT's Cannon brand has been at the forefront of interconnect innovation in aviation for the better part of 80 years," said Neil Yeargin, president of ITT's Interconnect Solutions business. “Our newest connector generations adhere to the Cannon brand's highest standards of quality and reliability while providing modernized solutions to meet the evolving needs of the business aviation industry."

Cannon's newest generation of fiber-optic and copper multi-gigabit interconnect systems allow for the seamless flow of high-bandwidth data. The transmission of high-bandwidth data supports everything from providing pilots with enhanced visibility in extreme weather conditions to bringing passengers an array of high-definition programming. Cannon's Quadrax gigabit copper termini support multiple form factors, including ARINC rectangular connectors and MIL-DTL-38999 circular connectors among others, and continue to be the interconnect choice for many of today's in-flight entertainment systems.

ITT's Cannon group has also developed technologies resulting in smaller, lighter and lower-cost field-terminated circular connectors that perform similarly to the traditional MIL-DTL-38999 series. The latest innovations in the MKJ Trinity series of miniature D38999 connectors marry the benefits of field-terminated contacts with higher density contact layouts. This delivers a diverse and flexible product line to the marketplace that is up to 50 percent smaller and up to 70 percent lighter than its 38999 counterparts – reducing both size and weight while maintaining MIL-DTL performance and reliability.

“Our latest advances in connector technologies lead the market in performance, quality and affordability," said Wes Morgan, director of product management for ITT's Interconnect Solutions business. “Our current product portfolio includes new, lightweight, pressure-sealed connectors that cut installation and maintenance time up to 50 percent, saving fuel and time."
