ANDOVER, MA, April 24, 2007 — WSI announced that it has been awarded a $1.7M, 5 year contract from the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center to provide weather data and products to the FAA's Enhanced Traffic Management System (ETMS). From its 65,000 sq ft weather data center in Andover, MA, WSI provides its industry-leading NOWrad® NEXRAD radar mosaic and other US and Canadian weather information for traffic management processes of the FAA and airlines. WSI has supported the Volpe Center in this capacity for over 10 years as ETMS has evolved into more aviation centers with an expanding set of weather requirements. In 2006, the WSI weather service for ETMS was extended to the William J Hughes Technical Center for their disaster recovery facility.
"Serving the Volpe Center and the FAA's ETMS has been a very visible and important opportunity for WSI with mutual benefit for the government and WSI", said Kent Simons, WSI's Director of Government Business. "The support we provide is complementary with our airline and other aviation business lines and we are proud to serve this critical function of the National Airspace System."
