Assessing Our Progress as a Responsible Company

In 2007-08, ITT earned recognition for its corporate responsibility efforts from a number of third-party sources. We are pleased that our hard work and efforts in this area have been recognized. This recognition is a sign that we are on the right track, but we realize that there is much more work to do and that the only true benchmark of success is establishing and meeting our own high standards for corporate responsibility performance.

  • In February 2008, ITT earned the number nine spot on the list of "100 Best Corporate Citizens," published by Corporate Responsibility Officer magazine.
  • In September 2007, ITT was again selected for the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, making us one of the few companies to be included on the list every year since its inception in 1999.
  • In 2007, ITT improved its score for the second straight year on Fortune magazine's list of the Most Admired Companies. We ranked fourth in the Industrial and Farm Equipment category and were in the top five in all eight categories measured.
  • In November 2007, ITT was awarded the Social Responsibility award from the China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment.
  • Our Water and Wastewater business earned an 86 percent score on a sustainability audit conducted by Veolia Water, the world's leading operator of water services.
  • ITT was recognized with two awards for workplace safety efforts from the U.S. Army and American Industrial Hygiene Association.
  • In 2008, ITT was a finalist for a significant achievement award from Out & Equal Workplace Advocates for our efforts in advancing equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees.

ITT Improves Ranking on Fortune’s Most Admired List

ITT was included in Fortune magazine’s list of the Most Admired Companies, and ranked fourth in the Industrial and Farm Equipment category. This list is developed through a survey of 3,200 executives, board directors and analysts who rate companies on their performance in eight key areas: innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long-term investment and quality of products/services. We improved our score for the second straight year, and were in the top five in all eight categories.

ITT Earns Social Responsibility Award in China

In November 2007, ITT was awarded the Social Responsibility Award from the China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment. The award was presented to the top 50 companies with operations — but not headquarters — in China, based on top-tier performance in six areas: integrity of the law, harmonious labor relations, environmental protection, intellectual property protection, protecting the rights and interest of employees, and long-term support for social causes. caefi2.mofcom.gov.cn

High Scores for Sustainability from Key Customer

Our Water and Wastewater business earned an 86 percent score on a sustainability audit conducted by Veolia Water, the world’s leading operator of water services, to measure its suppliers’ commitment to sustainability. The audit reports states that ITT Water and Wastewater has a “strong conviction and a strong commitment to sustainable development.” Several improvement actions were identified by Veolia, which are being addressed by Water and Wastewater now.

Two Honors for Workplace Safety

ITT was awarded the 2007 Commander’s Award for Safety Excellence and the Chief of Staff Safety Award by the U.S. Army for its workplace safety and risk reduction achievements at the U.S. military base in Qatar. The busy base houses more than 4,000 soldiers and civilians, and our on-site environment, safety and health team reduced accidents by 20 percent.

In addition, Alan Leibowitz, director of ITT’s environment, safety, health and security department, earned the 2008 Distinguished Service Award from the American Industrial Hygiene Association for leading the team that developed the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) Z10 Safety and Health Management Systems Standard. The new standard provides a set of requirements for how to run a workplace safety and health program, and has become a leading benchmark for U.S. industry. For more information, visit www.ansi.org.
