First sale of data collected through NextGen ADS-B network
LONDON, July 20, 2010 – ITT Corporation (NYSE:ITT), a leader in air traffic management solutions, announced today the commercial availability of real-time air traffic surveillance and tracking data to provide the most accurate situational awareness information available in the U.S. National Airspace System. This marks the first-ever sale of data collected through the Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast (ADS-B) network being deployed by ITT as part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) NextGen initiative.
The ITT aviation data service will provide a trusted source of operational information that can be used to optimize the business operations of customers such as airlines, airport operators, and companies providing services tied to aviation operations.
“ITT is delivering a complete, accurate, and rapidly updating data service that provides tracking and flight data for all aircraft operating in the U.S. National Airspace System,” said John Kefaliotis, ITT’s vice president of next generation transportation systems. “With strict adherence to guidelines for data delivery provided by the FAA, ITT looks forward to offering this service to a wide range of aviation industry businesses for whom the highest quality aviation data set available is of commercial value.”
As a part of the ADS-B contract, ITT has developed and deployed an open, scalable and secure system architecture that fuses real-time nationwide data from multiple FAA-trusted surveillance sources such as: the ADS-B network; the existing terminal and en-route air traffic control surveillance radars; and the output from the Airport Surface Detection Equipment, Model X (ASDE-X), a runway safety tool system that is being deployed at the 35 busiest U.S. airports. The system supports streaming of these data to customers, archiving and retrieval of data for historical analysis, and a situation awareness application for flight track visualization for such purposes as fleet management.
