ITT showcases leading electric vehicle and friction materials technologies at 2012 Auto China

  • Inaugural appearance at Auto China held in the world’s largest auto market
  • Debut of second-generation electric vehicle interconnect solution for China
  • Presentation at 2012 China Automobile Forum jointly organized by CAAM and OICA

April 23, 2012, BEIJING — ITT Corporation (NYSE: ITT) is making its first appearance this week at the 12th Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, also known as Auto China, where it is reinforcing its support for China’s automotive market through training local talent and developing new solutions for the electric vehicle (EV) and friction materials markets.

ITT’s Interconnect Solutions business is displaying its new second-generation J1772 electric vehicle charging connector, which provides a full charging solution for electric vehicle service equipment (EVSE) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) in less than four hours. The new connector features an ergonomic handle textured for improved grip – an important design enhancement for EV drivers who handle the connector on a daily basis.

“We are excited to be exhibiting at Auto China and to have this excellent opportunity to showcase our state-of-the-art capabilities in the EV, PHEV and EVSE charging market,” said William E. Taylor, president of ITT’s global Interconnect Solutions business.

The company also delivered a keynote speech on April 21 at the 2012 China Automobile Forum organized by the China Association of Automotive Manufacturers (CAAM) and the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA). The forum attracted more than 200 guests including original equipment manufacturers, suppliers, experts, academia, representatives of government agencies and the press.

“Our strategy in China is crystal clear: to attract and develop local talent to provide tailor-made services to our local customers," said Luca Savi, president of ITT’s global Motion Technologies business. “We will leverage ITT’s rich technical experience and R&D capacity to enhance the technical center and train local talent, develop new brake pad solutions to meet local customer needs, and resolve existing problems by sharing ITT’s extensive product knowledge.”

ITT’s Interconnect Solutions business manufactures advanced charging connector solutions that support the development of the EV sector, a key industry that the Chinese government will be promoting aggressively over the next five years. As a world leader in this area, ITT’s Interconnect Solutions business works closely with various car manufacturers, EV system providers and EV charging suppliers, such as FAW, Beijing Automotive New Energy Group, Shanghai VIASYSTEM and BYD, to develop and bring connectors to China and other overseas markets.

ITT’s second generation SAE J1772 was developed based on the award-winning first generation J1772 high-reliability electric vehicle charging connector and leveraging HEP contact technology. The company launched both the IEC International and GB China standards simultaneously.

ITT’s Motion Technologies business produces and supplies braking and friction technologies for all categories of cars and commercial vehicles, both light and heavy, for major transportation manufacturers in China and around the world.

Earlier this year, ITT announced one of its largest overseas investments in its Motion Technologies business, investing USD $10 million to build a brake technology R&D center in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, China, as part of its future commitment to the region.

ITT’s Industrial Process and Control Technologies businesses provide additional solutions and services that promote China’s automotive industry, including pumps that contribute to the coating process in car manufacturing, valves that are used in natural gas-driven vehicles, components that provide welding positioning for auto parts, and energy absorbers used in welding robots and the conveyer systems of auto assembly lines, car stamping beds and lifting platforms.
